Our workshops for January - June 2018 are now LIVE and available for booking. Thank you to those of you who got in quickly to secure your places. It's going to be a fabulous semester of workshops and It takes a lot of hard work and organisation from both myself and our team of tutors, and I'm so pleased that our line-up has been so popular. We've got a huge range of workshops next semester and we've tried to include something for...

It's time once again for our annual Christmas Open Studio here at The Whimsical Bead Browse a great variety of locally made handmade art, jewellery and gifts created by Dani and guest artists, including Karen Donald and Brooke La Grue. We will also have example for our Semester 1 2018 workshops on display and available for booking. This only happens on this scale once a year so don't miss out. If you work with polymer clay here in Australia, you'll know that it's been virtually impossible to get a spray sealer that doesn't react with polymer. I've been trying for years to import PYM II which is a spray sealer that has been known to work perfectly with polymer clay and not react like so many do. Unfortunately I've been unsuccessful due to many reasons. Like myself, one of my long time students, Laura Yodgee, was extremely frustrated by this and since...

Today I have some sad news to share with you. As most of you would know, two years ago I, along with Jo, Kay and Prue, started a wonderful venture called Bead and Buy, with the idea of bringing the community together through their love of creating. It has been a wonderful few years but unfortunately due to my ongoing health issues that I am sure you’re all aware of, and the stress associated with exhibiting, I have sadly had to resign...

Sunday 24th September (2017) was the first of our Creative Fun Day's and it was a great day! We had demonstrations from some of our tutors, freebies and giveaways to the value of around $250. Plus we had a sausage sizzle to raise money for Beyond Blue. We raised $92.50 and I rounded it up to $150 which was donated to Beyond Blue a week or so after the event. It was a wonderful day and as a result we will be planning...

I love these new silicone beads and I love having them in the studio as they're so bright and happy. Now you really can be like a kid in a candy store! With a 2mm hole, they fit on our buna cord and also the ball chain we stock. They'll look great one their own or with polymer clay, resin...

Once again, we had a busy month here at the studio in August. Lots of wonderful things were created and lots of fun had! One of the first workshops we held this month was Polymer Clay Brilliant Bezels. This is always a popular workshop and we'll likely run it again next semester so if you're interested, let me know by commenting here. If we get enough interest we will definitely offer this again. Here's a few photos from the day including student...

Have you seen the new Polymer Arts magazine? It's the Fall 2017 issue, it's entitled 'Texture' and I was lucky enough to be able to work with the amazing Sage and write an article (on my favourite subject!) for my most favourite publication. This issue features cover art by the amazing Nikolina Otrzan and there's also some wonderful articles on hand tooled texture, tactile jewellery, talking with texture and so much more. Our friend Christi Friesen also has a wonderful article inside. Being invited to...

July was a busy month here at the studio with workshops in a variety of mediums taking place. From Polymer Clay to Resin, Metal Work to Precious Metal Clay with some beading thrown in too! Here's a little sneak peek...

On Sunday 30th July (2017) we were so pleased to welcome Leanne & Simon from Oraco Resin Arts to our team of tutors. Leanne & Simon taught our two sell-out classes of excited students how to create their very own piece of amazing resin art (and how to do this again at home if they wished). These workshops will only ever run with 6 students so you receive personalised attention from tutors (2 tutors : 6 students). We'll be running more in the...
