2016 is a very special year for The Whimsical Bead as it marks 10 years of us being in business. Whilst it's been a few months since this special event, the wonderful pieces that were submitted as part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations Competition are very much still cemented in my mind and I'm long overdue in sharing them with you. Our 10th Birthday Celebrations Competition challenged participants to create a piece of wearable or non - wearable art from any one...

Where did that time go?! Our ‘official’ birthday is 25th September and in...

Many of my students have been on Pinterest for quite awhile and many of them regularly bring their iPads and tablets to show me images and share inspiring images with their peers. As many people will know I'm not a huge fan of social media! Whilst I enjoy being able to make contact with my customers and interact with them regularly, I believe that in some ways social media is taking over and is affecting our personal relationships. As with everything...

After a lot of persuasion, I have finally put The Whimsical Bead on Facebook!  I am still learning all about how it works but we're there and it's certainly a start. All the latest news from the studio will be posted there - new products, updates, workshops etc. - just give me some time to get into the swing of it all!! You can find us (and like us!) HERE . I hope you come and join us!...

The theme for this challenge was 'Dreamscape'. Students were asked to interpret this theme as they saw fit. Entries could be...

After months of preparation, a hectic day of travelling and setting up and 3 long days trading (plus the workshop I taught!) , the 2011 Melbourne Bead Expo is over.  The Expo was held at the Kingston Town Hall in Moorabbin over 3 days. Like last year we traded next to good friends and fellow traders, Kay from Kay's Artycles and Jo from Cranberry Beads, however this year The Whimsical Bead had three tables rather than the two we had last year. This extra table served as a demonstration space...

Recently I managed to find a new supplier for the watch innards we currently sell in store. I am pleased to announce that not only are our prices now much better on this product, but the watch parts are a better mix too. There is a great range of cogs, pins and stoppers. These watch innards are great for use with polymer clay, resin, mixed media designs, embroidery...

Aluminium cuff blanks have been very hard to find here in Australia for quite some time now and I am pleased to announce that The Whimsical Bead will now be stocking them!  We've got 4 different widths which can all be pulled out to fit many different sized wrists. Cuff blanks are extremely versatile. You can use them as bases for polymer clay cuffs - see below for some of my creations. You can also use them for stamping on which...
