May was one of our busiest workshop months here at The Whimsical Bead studio. Along with our local tutors, we also hosted extremely talented metalsmith and mixed media artist, Wendy Hearn. I've known Wendy for around 12 years or so - might even be a bit longer. I always knew she was a talented artist and over the years she's become a friend too. Wendy is accomplished in many mediums so picking only a few for her to teach in was difficult...

With Easter and School Holidays this month, April was a little quieter than usual for workshops however we still had quite a bit on and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. We started off the month with our regular bi-monthly chainmaille workshop, this time focusing on Rondo, Whirlybird and Starfish weaves. Everyone managed to get quite a bit completed during this workshop which was great! The next day was our first Jewellery Assembly 101 workshop where students came and learned how to...

March was a fabulously busy month here at the studio with our own local tutors as well as Debbie Crothers from Western Australia coming back to visit. We started the month off with a brand-new-to-the-studio workshop - Cold Process Natural Soap Making with Kylie Callander who made her teaching debut here at the studio with this workshop. Students had a wonderful time and I can tell you that the studio smelled amazing! So scents not to mention colours in the soap that...

We started our workshop schedule for January 2017 later in the month as we usually do, but we started with a bang! Lots of wonderful creations were made and lots of happy students left the studio with new found skills. Our first workshop of the year was 'Simply Seed Beads : Focus on Tubular Rope' with Karen Donald. Our Simply Seed Beads workshops run approximately every 8 weeks and students are welcome to bring their own project to work on/get help with or...

February was jam packed of workshops - so many exciting things on! In February,  award winning artist, Catriona Starpins (who is also a pretty awesome person!) made her Whimsical Bead teaching debut with this amazing new workshop - Dimensional Bead Embroidery. I was so thrilled to join in on this workshop myself, I learned so much. Every student in the class managed to design some wonderful components and with Cat's help, were well on their way to creating some fabulous dimensional embroidered...

2016 is a very special year for The Whimsical Bead as it marks 10 years of us being in business. Whilst it's been a few months since this special event, the wonderful pieces that were submitted as part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations Competition are very much still cemented in my mind and I'm long overdue in sharing them with you. Our 10th Birthday Celebrations Competition challenged participants to create a piece of wearable or non - wearable art from any one...

As part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations we are so lucky to have the amazing Christi Friesen here at the studio. This is Christi's 5th visit here to The Whimsical Bead and we just love having her here. Whilst I'm certainly not a sculptor I always love pushing my creative skills just that little bit further than I usually would in Christi's workshops. We always have such a lot of fun. I can thoroughly recommend spending time doing a workshops with her. For those...

As part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations, we held a VIP evening event on Monday 12th September. Spaces were limited and the hardest part was only being able to invite a limited number of people. Attendees were those who have been a significant part of The Whimsical Bead's journey and it was so wonderful to have so many of these people in one place all together and I was so incredibly glad that Debbie Crothers and Christi Friesen could be a part...
