As part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations we are so lucky to have the amazing Christi Friesen here at the studio. This is Christi's 5th visit here to The Whimsical Bead and we just love having her here. Whilst I'm certainly not a sculptor I always love pushing my creative skills just that little bit further than I usually would in Christi's workshops. We always have such a lot of fun. I can thoroughly recommend spending time doing a workshops with her. For those...

As part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations, we held a VIP evening event on Monday 12th September. Spaces were limited and the hardest part was only being able to invite a limited number of people. Attendees were those who have been a significant part of The Whimsical Bead's journey and it was so wonderful to have so many of these people in one place all together and I was so incredibly glad that Debbie Crothers and Christi Friesen could be a part...

As part of our 10th Birthday Celebrations we are so lucky to have my beautiful friend and amazing polymer clay artist, Debbie Crothers here at the studio teaching 3 days of wonderful workshops. I've known Debbie for around about 8 years now and she is not only an amazing artist but a great big ball of energetic fun. I always feel so so inspired and energised after a visit from her! We did two different workshops this time around revolving around Disperse Dyes, Pebeo...

Earlier this month (August 2014), I held my Woven Polymer clay workshop here at the studio for the first time. It was well received which was lovely and the students created some wonderful pieces - many with their own take on the technique. Here are some photos from the day!   ...

Robyn and Julie Wilson from Deegan Designs are regulars here at The Whimsical Bead studio these days.  We are holding metal workshops approximately every 8 weeks which I just love! Most of them I join in on as a student and I've made some wonderful pieces and learned some fabulous techniques. In June 2014, we held a 'Catch Up' workshop for students who had missed Robyn's previous workshops. Students could choose from 4 projects; Copper Rose; Linked Up Bracelet; Steampunk Cuff; or Basketweave Bracelet. These...

Did you know that we run semi-regular chainmaille workshops from The Whimsical Bead studio?? Our resident 'mailler' Karen Donald is always coming up with new and exciting workshops to run from the studio. We offer these approximately every 8-10 weeks depending on demand. All the rings used in our chainmaille workshops are hand wound and cut by chainmailler extraordinaire Deb Mahoney of Aussie Maille. Here are some of the previous projects that have been taught here at the studio. ...

Kay Lancashire - of Kay's Artycles' - Pocket Full of Posy workshop is a fabulous workshop for so many students as it covers such a wide range of techniques. In this mixed media workshop, students used pre-fabricated components, 'odds and ends' and bead soup to create stunning feature neckpieces using techniques such as riveting, eyeletting and wire wrapping. These pieces were coloured with many different products such as Vintaj, Lumiere, Pinata paints and plain ol' simple nail varnish! This workshop was so...

Over the past twelve months I've been lucky enough to book some fabulous workshops with some amazing tutors but every so often one comes along that I simply MUST attend myself.  This was one of those workshops - Introduction to Foldforming with Robyn Wilson. This was held on Sunday 13th Apri in the Healesville studio and I must say, it is one of the most interesting, fun techniques I have tried in quite some time. I can certainly see the potential...

Those of you who have been to one of Kay Lancashire's workshops will know that they are always a treat! Kay is the owner of Kay's Artycles, an online store and gallery stocking unique findings and supplies for all your jewellery and beading creations. Lucky for us, Kay is also a seriously talented artist who loves to pass on her knowledge to willing students and we had a whole group of them here on the 2nd March 2014, just waiting to learn! Kay...

On the 1st of March I held a brand new polymer clay workshop, 'Alluring Layering'.  On first glance the project featured in this workshop looks rather easy but it's all about being precise in your technique. Students learned not only about layering their polymer clay components but also how to add rings to the back of the components for easy stringing and how to put them all together to make some unique pieces of jewellery.   As with all the workshops we run...
