You are invited to our very first Whimsical Bead Fun Day! It's going to be just that - fun, plus a whole lot more too. Come for a quick visit or stay for a few hours - the choice is yours. There will be demonstrations of particular techniques and products from some of our tutors, door prizes and studio-only specials. This is a great opportunity for you to come and see where we are and what we do here at the studio. It's...

Micro Mesh is a product created for sanding media such as wood, acrylic and metal however it works wonderfully on polymer clay. It differs from sandpaper as it is made from flexible cloth. This cloth may also be attached to foam pads (on both sides) to allow for cushioning when sanding (resulting in a better finish). These are called ‘Soft Touch’ pads. Although Micro Mesh works similarly to wet/dry sandpaper, there are some definite advantages to using Micro Mesh over sandpaper. Whilst all sandpaper will...

Whilst our online supply store may be closed for the time being, make no mistake we're still open for business, are receiving new stock every day and not going anywhere! As many of you would know, especially those who have visited the studio and attended our 10th Birthday Celebrations last September, the last few years have been quite difficult for me health wise. I've suffered from chronic health issues for the past 20 or so years and have numerous conditions that make...

With Bead and Buy , a public holiday long weekend and us finalising the new workshop schedule for semester 2, we've been pretty busy so June was a relatively quiet month for workshops. The ones we held were good ones though and very popular. Without a doubt the most popular workshop this month was our Maille Mania : Focus on Chainmaille Bezels workshop. This was an intermediate workshop and booked out last year within only a few days of us listing it. Each student managed to...

I've always loved the Vintaj Patina range. They are extremely versatile across many mediums, come in a range fabulous colours (which are blendable) and are easy to use. This week I received a shipment of findings and within this, some beautiful large metal alloy rings which are perfect for colouring with Vintaj Patinas. So, I decided to have a play and put together this quick and easy free project for you to try. We stock the full range of Vintaj Patinas in the...

May was one of our busiest workshop months here at The Whimsical Bead studio. Along with our local tutors, we also hosted extremely talented metalsmith and mixed media artist, Wendy Hearn. I've known Wendy for around 12 years or so - might even be a bit longer. I always knew she was a talented artist and over the years she's become a friend too. Wendy is accomplished in many mediums so picking only a few for her to teach in was difficult...

With Easter and School Holidays this month, April was a little quieter than usual for workshops however we still had quite a bit on and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. We started off the month with our regular bi-monthly chainmaille workshop, this time focusing on Rondo, Whirlybird and Starfish weaves. Everyone managed to get quite a bit completed during this workshop which was great! The next day was our first Jewellery Assembly 101 workshop where students came and learned how to...

March was a fabulously busy month here at the studio with our own local tutors as well as Debbie Crothers from Western Australia coming back to visit. We started the month off with a brand-new-to-the-studio workshop - Cold Process Natural Soap Making with Kylie Callander who made her teaching debut here at the studio with this workshop. Students had a wonderful time and I can tell you that the studio smelled amazing! So scents not to mention colours in the soap that...

We started our workshop schedule for January 2017 later in the month as we usually do, but we started with a bang! Lots of wonderful creations were made and lots of happy students left the studio with new found skills. Our first workshop of the year was 'Simply Seed Beads : Focus on Tubular Rope' with Karen Donald. Our Simply Seed Beads workshops run approximately every 8 weeks and students are welcome to bring their own project to work on/get help with or...
